we were cousins
in our underoos
emblazoned with cotton courage
superman, aqua-man
I changed
in the bathroom
marveled at my own transformation
I became a wonder of a woman
in my 6 year old
heroine underthings
justly we united
we saved them all
invincible 1970’s children
we saved ourselves
truth ensnarled bad guys
within the looping of my golden lasso
those fascists
those corrupt power hungry villains
who foolishly grew up
and abandoned childish dreaming

My Daughter

my daughter
my magpie
keeper of shiny things
you flit
you fly
eyes captive
with passion
for this world
this world that hungers
for more of you
your keen sense of beauty
among the mundane
darling daughter
you are my shiny thing
